Polyhedron in the shape of a football
The BAMBUTEC football consists of 90 single rods, and 60 joints. All rods have the same length. The design at hand has a diameter of 3m. The rods have a length of 45cm.
All joints are identical and can be cost-effectively produced on NC milling machines. The diameter of the rods is 65mm. The length and the diameter of the rods can be choosen differently. Other materials for the rods are possible as well. Accordingly the size of the object and its appearance will change.
The football can be used as e.g. a junglegym, advertising space etc. Sheeting of the polygons is possible with arbitrary sheeting material. Sheeting can be done from inside and outside, with insulation material in between. Glass panels can be mounted perfectly on the joints.
The pentagons can be delivered pre-assembled. Then only the rods in between have to be mounted. Thus the volume of a delivery is comparatively compact. The edges of the joints can be completely rounded.
